Eleven soldiers were injured on Thursday evening after three Piranha 5 armored personnel carriers from a military column collided on DN 1C, in Sălaj County.
The accident occurred around 8:30 p.m., at the exit of the Bizușa-Băi locality, on the Dej – Baia Mare direction, according to a statement issued by the military unit involved.
The three vehicles were part of a column of the 813 Infantry Battalion.
Accident in a military column
Army representatives stated that initial checks indicate that the cause of the accident was the failure to maintain the required distance between vehicles.
“Today, 28.05.2026, around 8:30 p.m., at the exit of the Bizușa-Băi locality, Sălaj County, on the Dej – Baia Mare direction, a road accident occurred involving three Piranha 5 armored personnel carriers belonging to a military column of the 813 Infantry Battalion,” the unit’s representatives transmitted.
According to them, the impact occurred between the three vehicles traveling in the same column.
Soldiers were transported to the hospital
Following the collision, 11 soldiers required medical care.
“As a result of the incident, 11 soldiers were injured, of which 10 are being evacuated to the Zalău County Emergency Hospital,” stated army representatives.
Police, Ambulance, and Emergency Situations Inspectorate crews intervened at the accident site.
Authorities temporarily restricted traffic in the area to facilitate the response and conduct investigations.
The carriers were slightly damaged
The army specifies that the military vehicles involved in the accident only suffered minor damages.
In addition, the drivers of the three armored personnel carriers were tested with a breathalyzer, and the results were negative.
The exact circumstances of the accident are to be determined in the investigation opened after the incident.
